Police say they have not provided details to media about charges faced by former broadcaster Tony Veitch.

Sunday newspapers yesterday published information detailing Veitch's alleged actions against his former partner, Kristin Dunne-Powell.

Veitch faces several charges including male assaults female and injuring with reckless disregard and is on bail awaiting a pre-depositions hearing on September 29.

The Criminal Bar Association has criticised police, saying too much information has been released in the lead up to a likely trial.

However, Auckland police Detective Inspector Scott Beard said the information in the newspapers appeared to have come from a police summary, but such information had never been supplied by police.

"The only people who have access to the police caption of summary are myself, the officer in charge of the case, the Crown and Mr Veitch and his team," he told Radio New Zealand.

Mr Beard said Ms Dunne-Powell was not speaking to media and did not have a copy of the summary.

Veitch's public relations representative Glenda Hughes also denied leaking the information.

Veitch was arrested and appeared in Auckland District Court last week over the allegations and said outside the court he would strongly defend the charges and wanted to tell his side of the story and clear his name.

The charges follow reports about the pair's tumultuous relationship, culminating in an incident when Ms Dunne-Powell was allegedly left with broken vertebrae.

The only thing Veitch has stated publicly about the allegations was that he lashed out in anger at Ms Dunne-Powell in a January 2006 incident which he regretted.
