An aircraft has made an emergency landing at Nelson airport.

The aircraft, with 31 people aboard, had trouble with its brakes, press.co.nz understands, but landed safely.

The Q300 aircraft was operated by Air Nelson.

The emergency began after a warning light went off on the flight deck during Air Nelson’s Nelson-Christchurch service (NZ8219) this morning.

Air Nelson said the pilot followed standard operating procedure by returning to Nelson for the aircraft to be inspected by engineers.

The aircraft landed without incident and is expected to be back in service early this afternoon.

All 31 passengers on board were accommodated on the next available service.

Air Nelson has apologised to its customers for any inconvenience caused.
