A teenage girl and three adults in their 60s were attacked by a dog in South Auckland this morning, forcing a police officer to shoot it.
A police spokesman said the attack happened on Elmdon St, Mangere, at 10.30am.
"Police responded to a call that a teenage girl had been bitten and on arrival the dog was still behaving aggressively," a Counties Manukau police spokesman said.
"It had bitten a further three people, two men and one woman all aged in their 60s."
The spokesman said a police constable used a pistol from his vehicle to shoot the dog, believed to have been a pitbull cross.
A St John ambulance spokesman said they had taken three patients to Middlemore Hospital with minor injuries.
The police spokesman said they were thought to have suffered puncture wounds rather than tears.
