Arrest in Beehive white powder incident
Relevant offers
Police have arrested and charged a 61-year-old Taranaki man in relation to a suspicious package containing white powder which was sent to the Beehive last month.
Four Beehive staff were decontaminated after white powder was delivered to Prime Minister Helen Clark's eighth-floor office on August 13.
Detective Senior Sergeant Scott Miller, from Wellington CIB, said that the arrest came as a result of extensive forensic examination of documents that accompanied the white powder.
He said this examination provided police with a positive line of enquiry.
The man will appear today in the Hawera District Court charged with Criminal Threats.
"We have world class forensic analysis capabilities and this combined with investigative expertise has led to today's arrest," Detective Senior Sergeant Miller said.
