A toddler whose disappearance sparked a police search has been found drowned in a river near her house.
Three-year-old Tamar Ihaka was reported missing at 1pm yesterday.
Police said the toddler was last seen at an address on Baker St, off State Highway 16, about 1km south of Helensville.
Sergeant Greg Foster said the girl was found dead by a family member who was part of the group of searchers.
The family's Baker St house backs on to the Kaipara River which snakes through Helensville.
Earlier police described Tamar as "female, Maori, of slim build with long hair that goes half way down her back".
She was believed to be wearing pink pants and a striped pink top.
Police, Search and Rescue and the Coastguard were involved in the short search.
Foster said there were no suspicious circumstances and the death would be referred to the coroner.
