Two motorcyclists injured in falls
Two motorcyclist were airlifted with injuries from two separate accidents in the Eastern Bay of Plenty yesterday.
A 49-year-old Cambridge man was flown to Waikato Hospital with serious injuries after coming off his bike while riding in Matata.
The Rotorua based BayTrust Rescue helicopter was called to transport the man on Sunday afternoon.
Chief pilot Barry Vincent said the 49-year-old, competing in a motocross event near Matata, was stabilised at the scene before being airlifted in a serious condition with multiple injuries.
Prior to this, the helicopter was called to Otara, near Opotiki, at 1pm to airlift a teenager who had also fallen from his bike. The 15-year-old had been riding a trail bike in an area of riverbed when he came off, said Vincent."
Fire and ambulance also attended, however the accident site was still quite remote."
The teen was treated at the scene and airflited to Whakatane Hospital with shoulder injuries.
"In both cases the helicopter was used due to the locations and the time required to get the patient to hospital," said Vincent.
