Four people are in hospital after a fight in a liquor store in Otara spilled out onto the street.
Witnesses told police that just before 5.30pm a youth entered the shop in Franich Street and a fight started with a number of other youths who followed him inside, the brawl then moved outside.
Inspector Ian Brooker said a piece of fencing was thrown during the fight and struck a woman from the shop on the head.
“People going to the woman's assistance have become involved in the altercation and have received injuries, some possibly inflicted with a knife, some by blows.” Brooker said.
Four people were taken to hospital after the incident including one man with a stab wound in his leg.
Police are visiting several known addresses in the area to locate further participants in the brawl.
Inspector Brooker said it didn’t look like a robbery was intended.
“Due to the nature of the altercation and the number of participants and witnesses it will be some time before an accurate picture of events can be put together.”
