Man Boobs on Bikes may not sound as attractive or outrageous as its female incarnation, but the fleshy parade will hit Christchurch streets on Friday.
The stunt that provoked a public squabble for featuring topless women perched on motorbikes promoting the Erotica expo has undergone a metamorphosis that will see topless men raising awareness of breast cancer.
This new version of man mammaries on two-wheeled transport, organised by the Tahu FM radio station, will coincide with Pink Ribbon Day.
Station manager Blade Jones said she was making no excuses for riding on the coat-tails of publicity surrounding the annual Boobs on Bikes parade because that parade had a positive outcome.
Breakfast DJ and boob-ride instigator Ra Dallas said he had seen the Auckland parade on television and imagined how funny it would be if the participants were all men.
"Then I thought, `Wouldn't it be great if we could do something like that and actually make some money out of it for a good cause,"' he said.
"It's about supporting our women and talking about this killer disease that's taking our mothers, our sisters, our wives and grandmothers."
Dallas said he had broached the idea with male friends, including a couple of Canterbury rugby players.
Their enthusiasm encouraged him to go public with the idea.
Any men entering the event need not ride Harley-Davidsons; any old bicycle would do, he said.
He is negotiating with his daughter to use her tricycle.
But is prepared to ride his step-through scooter if she refuses.
The event is supported by Canterbury Breastcare.
Each year about 2400 New Zealand women and 20 men are diagnosed with breast cancer.

Thank you all for your comments and support... I tried to think of something that men could do that would be funny and help benifit the ones we love, no matter what ethnicity or religion we connect to. I really do hope this is a success, with as many people as we can get, to march for Breast Cancer Awareness... I look forward to seeing you all and do hope that more people take up the challenge to do something for someone else, without retribution. Thanks again and see you at the Bridge of Rememberance, the 10th of October at 12pm (Lunchtime). Nga mihi kia koutou katoa

This will be the ultimate success if it could be lead by the ultimate boob on a bike... Brian Tamaki.
The difference Samantha is that male boobs don't have a sexual connotation like female boobs. Male boobs don't make you go gagga (not unless they happen to be attached to Vin Diesel or Daniel Craig :-)) where as female boobs make men drool.
Hey Matt, I'm a christian and I think this is a fantastic idea. There is a lot more to us christians than what is portrayed by the media etc. - make the effort and spend some time with us and you will realise that.
AWESOME! An event well worth supporting. Let's hope this is the start of many more.
Funny how the comments on here are mainly positive, where as boobs on bikes in auckland caused an uproar? Personally i cant see the difference. Id imagine that most of these guys have bigger boobs than some girls.... What a conservative society we live in....
Great idea!! Love the look!! Excellent cause!!

Fantastic - such a great idea and for a good cause. But isn't strange that when women do it, there is a huge public uproar and threats of legal action and protests? Whatever happened to equal rights for women??
