An occupant of a Toyota Hilux, which police say was stolen, has been rushed to hospital and will undergo surgery in an attempt to save the person's fingers after the vehicle rolled.

Police were called to Landfill Rd, in Wellington's Happy Valley, about 6.30am today after a Toyota Hilux rolled on its roof.

One occupant had already fled, leaving another person at the scene with serious hand injuries, police said.

The injured person was taken to Lower Hutt Hospital where they will undergo surgery to try and save the damaged fingers.

Police said the Hilux was stolen and they were still searching for the other person involved.
