An truck crash which brought down a power pole left nearly 500 Rotorua homes and businesses fumbling in the early morning darkness.
Police said a small truck crashed into a power pole, on Vaughan Rd about 6am.
The road was closed for about an hour, causing delays in peak-time traffic but the biggest disruption was felt by those left without electricity.
A crew from lines company Unison was working to install a new power pole, and spokesman Danny Gough said it was hoped all 470 customers who were affected would have power restored to them by 1pm.
"Unfortunately it was a double circuit pole so it serviced quite a large amount of people."
