A fire alarm also disrupted the international terminal just after midday and the building had to be evacuated. A fire communications spokesman said it was understood to be a false alarm.
Air NZ said the regional turbo-prop services were the worst affected by fog today - international and domestic jet services have been able to fly in the fog.
Flights to Auckland from Hamilton, Whangarei, Palmerston North, Whanganui, Nelson, Christchurch, Paraparaumu and Blenheim were delayed.
Twenty seven return flights were cancelled this morning.
A spokeswoman said anyone travelling through Auckland today should check flight information first.
Some airports in other parts of the country are continuing to be affected by fog and Air New Zealand warns delays are possible elsewhere.
Yesterday nearly 100 flights were cancelled or delayed by the persistent fog - the worst the city has seen in 20 years.
Auckland's motorways were this morning flowing normally but fog was widespread across the city.
