Twizel was blanketed with hoar frost earlier this week, as the town continued to experience an unusually long spell of cold weather.
Do you have hoar frost photos? newstips@stuff.co.nz
On only one day in the last month has the temperature in Twizel reached above 0 degrees Celsius.
As the fog cleared on Wednesday, so did the hoar frost, but not before local Nordahl Paul was able to take some photos of it.
While residents described the weather in Twizel as ''beautifully clear'' yesterday, it was still cold - the temperature gauge at the nearby Pukaki Airfield recorded -1.8 degrees C at 5pm.
When a hoar frost occurs, needle-like ice crystals protrude from surfaces and vegetation chilled below freezing.
