One person is dead after a house fire in a Christchurch suburb last night.
Fire crews were called to the fire on Clent Lane in Spreydon around 10.20pm.
When firefighters arrived at the house one person had emerged from the flames with minor injuries, but a short time later a body was found inside the house, a Fire Service spokesperson said.
No details on their identity, age or sex were immediately available.
The cause of the fire was being investigated.
St John Ambulance spokesman said several people were treated at the scene, but no one was taken to hospital.
