A person has died after being hit by a passenger train in Lower Hutt, police say.
Emergency services were called to an area just south of Woburn railway station in Lower Hutt around 8pm this evening.
Inspector Ken Climo from police central communications said a person had been hit by a passenger train that was heading into Wellington.
Mr Climo could not confirm if the person hit was a man or a woman, but said police would be investigating the incident further this evening.
Tranz Metro had suspended all services on the Hutt line until further notice while police and ambulance crews attended the scene.
