Search for person seen struggling in river
A search is underway for a person last seen struggling in the Waikato River.
Hamilton police said a woman who was jogging about 8pm saw a man in "considerable distress" as he tried to stay afloat in the river.
The jogger called emergency services from a nearby house and fire, ambulance and police staff all searched the river banks.
The police boat was also launched and searched the river, but the searched was called off at 10pm due to heavy fog.
Police said the person in the river was described as a young male wearing clothes with black sleeves.
They were appealing for any information in relation to the incident.
People with information should phone Hamilton police on 07 858 6200.
