Police have located the body of a man missing after a dinghy sank this afternoon in Wellington Harbour.
Police Dive Squad members reported the find at about 5.25pm, two hours after the initial incident occurred.
Two men were fishing on the boat when it sank 50 to 75 metres from shore, police said. It is not known how the dinghy sank.
The sinking was witnessed by a member of public and reported to emergency services.
One man made it to shore about 3.30pm. Both men were believed to be aged in their 40s.
Wellington police communications shift commander Bruce McKay said it was believed neither of the men were wearing life jackets.
The submerged dinghy has been located on the sea floor.
Lower Hutt police senior sergeant Mark Clausen said the man who made it to shore was "shaken and very upset", but otherwise unhurt.
The death has been referred to the coroner.
