Car found in Clutha River at Balclutha

Police are investigating after a car was found in the water in Balclutha.

Southern District Command Centre Senior Sergeant Craig Brown said police were investigating after a red Ford Falcon was found in the Clutha River on Thursday afternoon. He said no-one was in the vehicle when the car was found.

A Fire Service spokesman said three fire crews from Balclutha received a call shortly after 5pm on Thursday. When they arrived at the address in Hasborough Place, they found a car in the nearby Clutha River.

The spokesman said it was unclear how long the car had been in the water, or how it ended up in the water.
