An autopsy will be carried out today on the body of a teenager found on the Hutt riverbank, near Wellington, this morning.
Lower Hutt police are investigating the scene near the Riverside Carpark.
Police say the death is "unexplained" pending results of an autopsy which would take place later today. Results were expected in the morning.
Detective Senior Sergeant Dave Thornton of Lower Hutt police said the male's body was clothed and partially out of the water near the east side of the Hutt River.
Walkers had spotted the body about 8am from the other side of the river.
Police crime prevention cameras were operating in the area where the body was found.
Thornton said police were looking through the footage from today and yesterday.
Police had yet to identify the body.
A small area by the river is cordoned off.
