Emergency services have cleared a multiple-vehicle crash on State Highway 1 in Huntly, New Zealand Transport Agency said.

Four people were hurt in the crash, which firefighters were called to about 12.46pm on Saturday, Fire Northern Communications shift manager Megan Ruru said.

The accident happened near where Huntly's Main Street branches off and the people involved had "varying degrees of injury".

At least two cars were involved and there were reports of a third.

Firefighters were doing first aid until an ambulance arrived, Ruru said.

Police said to expect delays, given the crash happened on a main highway.

One lane of the highway was understood to be open to traffic by 1.30pm.

The patients' injuries did not appear to be serious, Waikato Police District Command Centre Senior Sergeant Andrew O'Reilly said.
