LATEST: A man has died in a house fire in Orewa, north of Auckland, overnight.
Emergency services were called to the Milton Rd home about 9pm when it went up in flames.
The house sits was adjoined to two others, but it is not known if they were damaged by the blaze.
The fire was believed to have been contained in a bedroom, fire north communications shift manager Steve Smith said.
A neighbour said he was unaware of the fire until he "heard all this commotion outside" last night.
The neighbour did not know the man who lived in the apartment.
The man, whose age has not yet been determined, was already dead when emergency services arrived.
He was the only person found in the house.
The Fire Service is returning to the scene this morning to try to work out what started the fire.
