A severed goats head has been found on someone's porch in an incident that Taumarunui Police said was ''unheard of''.
The lifeless lump appeared on residential deck in Matapuna this month but despite it's macabre nature and potentially threatening overtones, sergeant Grant Alabaster said nothing sinister had come of it.
''The people haven't been targeted in any way or anything else,'' he said.
''Some of these guys with their pig dogs hunt and feed goats to their pig dogs. I would say someone's being smart or kids thought it was cool to throw it over their fence and it's ended up on the deck.''
He believed it was a one off.
Meanwhile, two fourteen-year-olds are still going through youth court on animal cruelty charges that appalled Taumarunui police.
The charges stemmed from an incident in Taupo Rd where police alleged the youths entered a paddock containing sheep with newborn lambs. They caught one and it died from injuries.
They then chased another two lambs and allegedly threw them up in the air. Police alleged rocks were thrown at the lambs, killing them.
Another lamb was caught, taken on to the rail bridge above Taupo Rd, allegedly dangled over the side and dropped on to the road breaking its back.
Police said they were alarmed at the brutal treatment of the lambs and at where such behaviour might lead.
