A man is in a serious condition after suffering a medical episode while driving on an Auckland motorway tonight.

He crashed near the Ellerslie interchange on Auckland's southern motorway and was rushed to hospital.

Police understand he suffered a heart attack or stroke.

The Ellerslie interchange northbound onramp reopened after the crash site was cleared.

No other vehicles were involved.

A passenger in the vehicle suffered minor injuries.

Police are warning drivers about poor weather conditions tonight and urging them to take particular caution when negotiating the interchange.
