A serious crash blocked three northbound lanes on Auckland's Harbour Bridge on Friday night.

A minivan and two cars were crushed together in a nose-to-tail accident at 9.47pm that sandwiched the middle car.

Remuera resident Andrew Potvin, who was driving past, said at least one of the cars' occupants was stretchered into an ambulance.

"The middle car was a total wipe out," he said, "sandwiched in the front and in the back."

The New Zealand Transport Agency warned motorists to expect delays, and advised them to avoid the area.
