Navy and police divers are continuing to search a Waiouru lake for the body of Private Michael Ross.

The 29-year-old rifleman with the 1 Royal New Zealand Infantry Regiment, based at Linton near Palmerston North, fell overboard on Tuesday evening while travelling back across Lake Moawhango from a live-firing training session.

He had been in an inflatable boat with eight others, and was wearing a lifejacket.

Police said conditions at the lake today were quite good, and divers from the navy and police, supported by a coastguard boat, were back in the water.
