Aotea Square cordoned off after stabbings
Two men have been seriously injured after being stabbed during a fight in a central Auckland park.
This morning police cordoned off a section of Aotea Square, near Myers Park, to conduct a scene examination and take blood samples.
Detective Sergeant Scott Hunter said the fight happened at about midnight and one man sustained life-threatening injuries from the assault.
''It appears there was an assault in Myers Park which has resulted in both people getting stab wounds,'' he said.
''We are interviewing several persons involved.''
One of the men - believed to be aged between 28 and 30 - was transported to Auckland City Hospital in a critical condition.
The second man was taken to a different hospital, although it's not clear which one.
Both were kept overnight and are now in a stable condition.
Hunter said police were not sure of the circumstances surrounding why the two groups came together and what weapon was used.
No arrests have been made.
Police are urging witnesses to call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
