The person killed in a crash on State Highway 1 in Northland this morning was a cyclist.
A police spokesman said the rider was hit by a vehicle just before 11am. They died at the scene.
Those in the vehicle were not harmed.
The accident happened at the intersection of SH1 and Doctors Hill Road, south of Ruakaka.
A police spokesman said the identity of the person has been confirmed but their next of kin were yet to be contacted.
Emergency services had blocked State Highway 1 but it was due to reopen at 2pm.
Meanwhile a motorcyclist has been seriously injured in a crash north of Wellington today.
"The male motorcyclist has suffered serious injuries in the accident," Inspector Ken Climo said.
He understood there was no other vehicle involved in the accident.
The man was taken to Hutt Hospital by ambulance.
The accident happened 1.7kms north of the Haywards Hill turnoff from State Highway 2.
State Highway 58 between Paremata and the Hutt Valley was closed to all traffic after the accident at 10.30am.
The road opened to eastbound traffic about 11.30am and to westbound traffic at midday.
