Two people have been pulled off a sinking yacht near Purau Bay in Banks Peninsula.
A police spokesman said two people were on a small yacht when it started to sink.
A boat that happened to be nearby came to the rescue and the people on that boat pulled the pair to safety.
The spokesman said the Lyttleton Coastguard were on the scene.
