Police have located a swimmer who went missing near Nelson this evening.
Rescue crews began searching for the swimmer, a man in his 50s, after he was spotted off Rabbit Island about 5.40pm, a police spokesman said.
"He seems to have gotten himself into a bit of trouble. We just saw him bobbing in the water".
The man managed to swim to an island before rescue teams could reach him.
Police had difficulty locating the man in the forest on the island and began a search.
However, the spokesman confirmed the man had now been been found "safe and well" on the island.
"He has been found and the situation resolved."
It appeared the man may have "had a few drinks" before going swimming, he said.
