Officials are considering a new visa application from former heavy weight champion Mike Tyson.

Tyson was originally granted permission to travel here based on supporting evidence from the Life Education Trust.

However, Associate Immigration Minister Kate Wilkinson revoked the visa when the trust said their support had been given in error by an overzealous volunteer.

Tyson was sentenced to six years imprisonment for rape in 1992. He served three years.

As such needs a ministerial waiver to visit New Zealand.

When his visa was revoked, his promoter said he would be reapplying.

Wilkinson today confirmed he had done so with the support of another organisation.

"Any application that comes across my desk I'll look at of course," she said.

"I haven't seen it yet... a decision will be made in the normal way."

The application would be decided on its merits, Wilkinson said.

"I guess we'll find out in due course."
