A man in his 20s was taken to hospital after a medical emergency on a Wairarapa train.

The 6.48pm train from Masterton to Wellington has been delayed as a result of the on-board medical emergency.

An ambulance spokeswoman said a man in his 20s had been taken to Wairarapa Hospital in a moderate condition.

The emergency happened at Carterton.

No further details were available.

KiwiRail said delays of about 20 minutes were expected.
