A series of moderate quakes shook the Gisborne region overnight.
GNS reported four quakes between 1am and 2am, centred near Tolaga Bay.
The first was a magnitude 4.2 at a depth of 19km, centred 50km east of Tolaga Bay at 1.13am.
Six minutes later a magnitude 3.8 shake was measured at a depth of 21km at 40km east of Tolaga Bay.
At 1.49am a magnitude 3.4 shake was reported and at 1.55am a magnitude 4 was reported in roughly the same spot.
There were early reports of the quakes be felt in the Gisborne area and as far south as Featherston.
