About 1000 homes in Wellington's western suburbs were without water after a main burst this afternoon.
Homes in suburbs including Northland, Wilton, Crofton Downs, Highbury and Wadestown were affected after the main had burst on Mairangi Rd in Wilton.
Council contractors were replacing the pipes and service was restored about 9pm.
"Wellington City Council contractors are working on getting this fixed and restoring water as soon as possible - however water supplies may be off until early evening," a council spokesman said.
