A teenager has died at West Auckland's Muriwai Beach after falling into the sea while preparing to go fishing today.
Police, Surf Lifesaving crews, the Westpac Rescue Helicopter, police Eagle helicopter and Land Search and Rescue staff joined the search for the 19-year-old about 11.50am.
It was initially thought the man had fallen into a blowhole at the beach.
Surf lifesavers recovered the man's body before 2.30pm. He was not wearing a life jacket.
Police said the man's name would be released after his family had been notified, and the death would be referred to the coroner.
Meanwhile a girl has been rescued by life guards from a rock at nearby Piha Beach. The girl, who was rescued about 3.30pm, was not understood to have been injured.
Earlier this month a man aged in his 30s slipped on a wet rock and fell 4m into the deep hole at the beach. Had it not been for a stranger who leaped in after him, the man may have died.
And last month another person had to be rescued after falling down a blowhole at the beach.
