A four-car crash caused delays on the motorway north of Wellington last night.
Police Inspector Marty Parker, of central communications, said the nose-to-tail crash happened in the northbound lane, just north of the Johnsonville off-ramp, about 10pm.
Traffic was diverted through the Johnsonville town centre for about 30 minutes while the road was cleared.
It is understood traffic was heavily backed up through the Ngauranga Gorge with many people making their way home after the Guy Fawkes fireworks display on Wellington Harbour.
