Council wants dog owner banned (caution: graphic pics)

Animal control officers, sickened by the cruelty to a dog in west Auckland, want the owner banned from owning animals.
The mastiff-labrador cross, called Bobbie, was seized by Waitakere City Council and put up for adoption after he was found in a "horrific state" with his mouth taped shut.
The dog had scars on his mouth from previous tapings and damage to his legs from hobbles.
The dog needed surgery to remove damaged tissue and part of his tongue.
Waitakere City Council animal welfare manager, Neil Wells, said today the owner would be prosecuted under the Animal Welfare Act and the council would ask for a ban on owning animals.
"In a case like this we will be seeking disqualification and a fairly heavy penalty."
Bobbie was found in the west Auckland suburb of Massey.
Because his mouth was taped up he could not drink or pant and cool himself down.
"It was initially difficult to tell what breed it is because its face was so disfigured," Mr Wells said.
He said the dog was initially distrusting, particularly of adult males, but had since settled down and accepted his new carers.
Bobbie had a lovely nature, despite his ordeal, he said.

OMG that is the most horrific thing iv ever seen, how could someone do somthing like that to an innocent animal i want to cry :( it amazes me that someone can do as little as steal something and go to jail but when someone tortures and disfigures a heapless animal the justice system thinks it a suitible punishment to fine them??????? what kind of world are we living in?????? the owner should be locked up and the key thrown away!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That is just plain cruel! Why do people like this guy believe that it is okay to treat a dog this way? I hope he gets the maximum penalty & the Judge accepts the Coucils request for this man to never be allowed to own another animal again. Dogs or any other animals should never have to be put through that kind of torture and pain, they should put people like this in jail and throw away the key!
Dog bites man, it is put down (in most cases). Man 'bites' dog and is fined. The world is over-populated - we need to start culling these scum.
The owner of this dog needs to be tied up and taped up like he did to this beautiful animal and then beat to death. We don't need this piece of feces living on earth. He doesn't deserve to live and as a society we need to take care of this now.

The piece of dirt that did this to this poor dog needs his mouth wired up and his neck and legs , scumbag should be sent to jail
poor thing :( what a sicko, he should definately do some jail time for this and have his face all over the news. dogs are meant to be mans best friend.

This story breaks my heart.
In the US SPCA Officers are allowed to arrest people who are cruel to animals, if would be great if we could do the same thing here.
They should also release the name of the person who did this.
Im a firm believer in karma - he will get his comeuppance
