Heavy rain is expected to fall on central parts of the North Island this afternoon.
MetService expects between 50mm and 80mm to fall on the eastern Bay of Plenty ranges by 10pm, with peak falls up to 15mm an hour late afternoon or early evening.
Up to 60mm is forecast for Tongariro National Park and the Kaimanawa mountains by 6pm, peaking at up to 15mm an hour
At Mt Taranaki the worst of the rainfall is expected to be over by 3pm, by which time up to 90mm of rain is forecast to have fallen since 8am. Peak rainfall of up to 25mm an hour was predicted.
