Fire guts New Plymouth Girls' school block

A fire at New Plymouth Girls’ High School has gutted the school’s drama block.

Fire communications shift manager Mike Wanoa said fire fighters from New Plymouth and Waitara arrived at the school on Northgate shortly after 10.30pm on Sunday to find the drama block well alight.

It took them about 30 minutes to contain the blaze and about an hour to extinguish it, he said.

The building was about 40 metres long and 20 metres wide.

There were no reported injuries and no one was thought to be in the drama block at the time.

Fire Safety officers were investigating the cause last night.
