Police probe bloody Nelson attack
A 32-year-old man has been rushed to hospital after police found him at a Nelson home with injuries to his head and hand which were bleeding heavily.
Detective Sergeant Ian Langridge said police were called to the address at 5.30am by the victim.
Police took the man, who was intoxicated, to hospital soon after they arrived due to his injuries.
Significant blood was found inside the house and along Jenner Rd for some distance.
The victim was still being treated for injuries this morning and police were yet to speak to him, and the others at the house, about what occurred.
Langridge said the man's injuries were caused by "a sharp object".
Police cordons were at the scene this morning.
Langridge said three people, including the victim, were at the house.
Police were speaking with another occupant and also wanted to speak to an 18-year-old who was at the address.
Nelson police attended an unusual increase in stabbings last month.
A 28-year-old man was stabbed numerous times close to near the back of a service station. A 19-year-old man was arrested and police said the stabbing was over a sausage roll.
On October 12, Nelson man Mark Wells had his throat slit with a knife in his Washington Valley flat. A man has been charged with attempted murder.
On October 9, a 31-year-old Motueka man was flown to Wellington Hospital with head injuries after a serious assault at a Motueka house.
Last week police were also investigating another stabbing, at a North Rd house in the Wood, after a 27-year-old man was left with cuts to his face, right hand and knee. Inquiries are continuing.
Also in October a Stoke man was stabbed outside a house. Both the attacker and the victim were arrested.
A stabbing involving two women earlier this year was also reported and arrests were made in that case.
Other assaults include a young man who suffered severe facial injuries at a rave this month at the Wairoa Gorge.
