A Chilean tramper who went missing overnight near Masterton is expected to be walked out of the bush this morning.
Masterton police Senior Sergeant Carolyn Watson said the 29-year-old was found alive by a search and rescue helicopter at 7am this morning.
She believed he was cold, but otherwise uninjured and is expected to be walked out of the bush by rescuers this morning.
The helicopter took off at first light today to help find the man, who was lost at forest park Mt Holdsworth after a day hike yesterday.
He had lost the track on his return journey to the lodge and used his cellphone to alert authorities to his predicament.
The man told searchers he was not equipped for an overnight stay.
