Two motorcyclists dead after Lindis Pass crash
Two motorcyclists are dead and a pillion passenger has been taken to hospital in critical condition after a crash on Lindis Pass this afternoon, police say.
Central Otago Police area commander Senior Sergeant Ian Kerrisk said two motorcycles were travelling north when they collided with a southbound Nissan vehicle on State Highway 8, near Goodger Road, about 2.15pm.
A female pillion passenger from one motorcycle has been flown by helicopter to Dunedin Hospital in a critical condition.
The single occupant of the car has been taken by ambulance to hospital.
The motorcyclists were travelling with a group. Several of them witnessed the crash and were being interviewed by police at Tarras, about 20km from the scene.
Victim Support was also working with the group.
Emergency services from Cromwell, Wanaka, Omarama and Otematata attended the crash.
The road was closed following the crash, but a single lane has since been reopened.
