Man hurt in Auckland lift explosion
A man has been injured in an explosion in a lift at an office building in central Auckland.
A fire service spokeswoman said crews were called to the Westpac building on Queen St about 11.30am after reports of a "small explosion".
St John Ambulance spokesman Norman Ngatai said there were two people in the lift who heard an "explosion" above them.
There were no flames as a result of the blast.
The injured man was treated by ambulance staff and taken to Auckland City Hospital in a moderate condition, Ngatai said.
It is unclear what caused the explosion.
Building manager David Baker said representatives from the lift company had been called in to assist and the Labour Department of the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment would be informed.
