Police have found the body of a man who went missing while canoeing on Lake Te Anau yesterday.

The 24-year-old was found close to his canoe at Brod Bay.

His name was yet to be confirmed, but police said he was not from New Zealand.

The man was last seen taking a red, fibreglass canoe out onto the lake about 10am.

Police earlier said they believed he had a lifejacket.

The man had been working at a restaurant in Te Anau.
