Police arrest man over drug shootings
A 29-year-old man has been arrested over four drug related incidents in suburban Auckland where shots were fired, injuring three men.
The shootings occurred at Hayr Rd on November 13 and 27, at a Mt Albert property on December 8, and the upmarket Seymour St, St Mary's Bay, last Wednesday.
During the first incident at Hayr Rd a 51-year-old man was shot in the leg and a BMW sedan was stolen from the property.
The victims in last week's Seymour Rd incident - a man and woman - have refused to tell police what happened, but neighbours said the woman living at the address fell backwards from a window and was caught by the man she lived with.
The pair were then seen running up the road with two intruders in pursuit.
During the December 8 incident a man was shot in the foot.
Detective Senior Sergeant John Sutton, of Avondale CIB, said they arrested a Manurewa man this morning after Armed Offender's Squad searched two properties in the area.
The man will appear in the Auckland District Court today charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and commission of a crime while in possession of a firearm.
Sutton said no firearms were found at the properties but investigations were continuing and further arrests were possible.
"Our investigations this far lead us to conclude that the shooting incidents were not random acts of violence against strangers," Sutton said.
"Rather, they appear to have been planned and those involved - either as victims or the alleged offender - are most likely participants in the illicit drug business."
