Police are searching for a Palmerston North man who has failed to return from a tramp in the Mt Owen area of Kahurangi National Park.
Alistair Levy, 54, was due in Christchurch on Monday. The last known contact with him was on Sunday when he sent a text message saying he had reached the summit of Mt Owen. His blue Toyota Estima is still parked at Courthouse Flat near the start of the walking track.
Police would like to hear from anyone who has seen Levy, his car, or his yellow mountain bike. He may have left the bike in the Owen Valley area where he would have finished his tramp/ He is believed to be carrying a purple and black backpack.
Today huts in the area where checked out by helicopter, ground search teams plan to start their search tomorrow.
Anyone with information about Levy should contact Nelson police.
