A truck breakdown on State Highway 1 has caused a 40km backlog of traffic stretching from Pukerua Bay to Otaki.
Police and other services were attending the breakdown this evening, but with no areas to pull the truck over to on the narrow coastal road, they have been unable to clear the road. This has created a large backlog in southbound traffic.
A large tow truck was being called and police said they hoped to remove the truck soon.
