A person has died on a South Island road, bringing the holiday road toll to four.
Emergency services, including fire, ambulance, and police attended a single vehicle crash on Tokarahi-Ngapara Rd in Waitaki, North Otago, at 9pm last night.
Police were were still at the scene at midnight.
No further details were available, but ambulance southern communications confirmed there had been one death.
Fire southern communications said one person had been cut free from the vehicle.
It is the fourth death on New Zealand roads during the Christmas and New Year holiday period.
