A magnitude 4.0 quake struck the east coast of the North Island just after 3am this morning.
Geonet reported that the quake struck 20 km west of Tolaga Bay at 3.18am and had a focal depth of 74km.
The intensity was described as weak but the quake was 'likely felt', the agency said.
