A 22-year-old man died when the car he was travelling in collided with a tree in the Waitaki District last night.
Police said the accident happened at 8.55pm on the Tokarahi-Ngapara Road and that no other vehicles were involved. The deceased man was the single occupant of the car.
Early inquiries indicated that speed and alcohol were factors in the crash.
Police reminded drivers to avoid driving after drinking and to adher to speed limits.
