A Wellington man in his 50s has been hospitalised from a possible sting ray injury this afternoon at Riversdale Beach.
The man was retrieving a crayfish pot from the sea at the Wairarapa beach when he sustained a 15cm gash in his leg, which he believed was caused by a sting ray.
Surf Life Saving members at the beach initially bandanged the man’s leg, and he was then flown by Westpac Rescue Helicopter to Wairarapa Hospital in Masterton, where he is currently being treated.
