A woman had a lucky escape when her car stopped on a West Coast railway crossing as a train was approaching.
A police spokesman said the woman was able to get out of the car before the train hit it on State Highway 69, about 15 kilometres north of Reefton, yesterday.
Emergency services were called to the scene about 8.35am.
The woman and train driver were both uninjured.
It was not yet known what caused the woman's vehicle to stop on the tracks, the spokesman said.
